Saturdays at Goat Milk Stuff mean farm tours, and farm tours during kidding season are a lot like March Madness; you never really know what’s going to happen! Hewitt was giving a tour on Saturday and while his group was in the barn meeting the baby goats, he looked into the pen where the pregnant goats were. Suddenly, he told his group that he would be right back because babies were going to be born. He ran up to the soap room and yelled, “Babies!!!”
Everyone grabbed what they needed to head to the barn. The customers in the retail room even came along, too! When we all got to the barn we found Belle ready to deliver and before long, Yahoo was born.
After a quick check and some repositioning of front legs, Yesterday joined her sister!
Greyden dried them off and
Belle gave Yahoo some kisses.
We usually isolate the doe for delivery, but there wasn’t time with this one, so Hummer got to greet Yesterday.
Emery milked out Belle’s colostrum
while Greyden weighed the girls,
and Brett recorded date, times, weights, and notes of the births.
Yesterday watched intently, and showed off her mad standing skills.
Jade helped Emery pour the colostrum into a bottle,
so Greyden could feed the girls their first meal!
Everyone on the tour, as well as the retail customers, really appreciated the experience of seeing the live kidding. We were glad to share it with them, and also glad that it’s one less pregnant goat to wait for!
Twelve pregnant goats done. Five more to go!
Kid count: 9 bucklings. 14 doelings.
